Speech by Dr. Alhaji Sani Zangon Daura, Chairman, Governing Council, Al-Qalam University, at the 16th Convocation Ceremony on December 7, 2024
In the Name of Allah, Most Beneficent, Most Merciful,
May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon our noble Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), his progeny, his companions, and all who follow the path of righteousness until the Day of Judgment.
Distinguished guests, ladies, and gentlemen,
It is my great honor to welcome you all to the 16th Convocation Ceremony of Al-Qalam University. We are deeply grateful for your presence and commitment, despite your busy schedules.
Last year, I reaffirmed the university's resolution to hold convocation ceremonies annually. By Allah's grace, we have upheld that promise today.
As the first university in Katsina State and Nigeria's pioneer Islamic university, Al-Qalam University will, insha’Allah, celebrate its 20th anniversary in January 2025. Over the years, we have produced exceptional graduates making meaningful contributions both locally and globally.
The vision of our founding fathers remains clear: to provide accessible and affordable education for all, regardless of socio-economic background. Our tuition fees remain among the lowest compared to other private universities in Nigeria, which often charge exorbitant rates. However, this comes with significant sacrifices, particularly in developing modern infrastructure.
I appeal to philanthropists and public-spirited individuals to support the university by investing in its infrastructural development. Your contributions will ensure a brighter future for our students and generations to come.
I extend profound gratitude to the Katsina State Government for its consistent support. Notably, we deeply appreciate His Excellency, Dr. Dikko Umar Radda, for his recent pledge to construct a perimeter fence for the university.
Additionally, I thank our esteemed stakeholders, including the Emir of Katsina, His Royal Highness Dr. Abdulmumin Kabir Usman; the Emir of Daura, His Royal Highness Alhaji Faruk Umar Faruk; our Chancellor, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata; and the Katsina Islamic Foundation. May Allah reward them all abundantly.
Finally, I commend the university’s academic and non-academic staff for their dedication, which is reflected in the outstanding quality of our graduates. I urge you to continue this commendable work.
I pray for the success of this convocation and safe travels for all attendees.
Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
